Contact the PI before you apply
Admission to the graduate program and admission to this lab are two separate decisions.
Even if you clear the department's entrance process, it is very difficult for us to take you on without prior contact. Email k0.kim@gist.ac.kr well before the application window closes — tell us what you want to work on, and we will discuss whether it fits what the lab is doing.
Do an internship first — three months or more
Summer, winter, or during the semester — the format matters far less than the length. Three months is roughly where a project stops being an exercise and becomes real research, and where both sides can judge fit honestly. In practice, our strongest applicants are people we have already worked with.
We Value Self-Motivation Above All
We are looking for highly self-motivated people — driven to ask their own questions, willing to sit with a hard problem, and eager to push at the boundary rather than wait to be pointed at it. Your motivation and curiosity matter more than any line on a transcript.
We focus on research in Generative AI, Physical AI, and AI for Science — from the mathematics behind diffusion and flow models to systems that act in the physical world and accelerate scientific discovery. Our aim is AI that is reliable and efficient enough to matter outside a benchmark.
Open Positions
Ph.D. & Integrated M.S.–Ph.D.
Full-time doctoral positions for students who want to work at the frontier of generative modeling and its applications. The integrated M.S.–Ph.D. track is judged on the same standard as direct Ph.D. admission — a higher bar than the M.S. program, since you commit to the full doctoral trajectory from day one.

Requirements
- •Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
- •Solid mathematical foundation (linear algebra, probability, optimization)
- •Strong programming skills (Python, PyTorch/TensorFlow)
- •English proficiency score (TOEFL / IELTS / TOEIC / TEPS) reported on your CV
- •Excellent communication and collaboration skills
- •Publications at top-tier venues (CVPR, ICCV, NeurIPS, ICML, etc.) are a plus but not required
M.S. Students
Master's positions for students seeking serious research experience before deciding on their next step.

Requirements
- •Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
- •Solid foundation in mathematics and programming
- •English proficiency score (TOEFL / IELTS / TOEIC / TEPS) reported on your CV
- •Strong interest in AI research
Undergraduate Interns
Hands-on research internships for motivated undergraduates — and the best path into a graduate position here.
Requirements
- •Currently enrolled undergraduate students (junior/senior preferred)
- •Basic knowledge of machine learning and deep learning
- •A commitment of at least three months; six months or more is ideal
